Let's GIF this a Go!

As I was driving to school one day last week, I was trying to think of a fun way to practice with our vocab words that afternoon. Then, I remembered earlier in the semester on of my classmates shared an activity using GIFs. BRILLIANT! So, I found this website called GIPHY where my students could create their own GIF that represented a vocab word I assigned to each partnered group.

My first class was definitely the guinea pigs. The website was not user friendly using an iPad. After switching to Chromebooks, it worked MUCH better! Some students found images/videos online while other created their own videos and upload them. I planned for the creation of the GIFs and presenting them to last 15 minutes...that definitely did not happen. No problem though, because this was our first time using it.

By the second class, I worked out all the kinks and it worked perfectly! The students were able to create their won GIF (which they LOVED) and they posted it to a shared Google Slide presentation so the rest of the class could view their GIF.

Next time, I may tweak some of my requirements such as requiring a theme or not allowed to say the word on the GIF. Overall, the students and myself had a lot of fun creating a GIF and presenting to the class. Definitely helped them remember their vocab words!
