Interactive Maps

This week my students began studying Mexico and its geography. My school recently adopted a new social studies program by Holt Mcdougall which comes with an online textbook, as well as, interactive videos, simulations, and maps to extend student learning. I'm still getting the hang of the website. It's not very user-friendly and is difficult to navigate -- even for a tech savvy person like myself.

I decided to try the interactive maps with the students. This particular interactive map included several different types of maps, such as political, physical, climate, etc. The students had to answer questions, but in order to answer them they had to decide which map was best to use. Sometimes a question required the students to examine a few different maps in order to discover the answer. It was a great way to learn about Mexico's geography and great practice using various types of maps.

National Geographic has a free interactive map that I also love to use with the students. However, it can be tricky for kiddos in younger grades.
